Coalition to Host Second Soup Supper to Benefit Historic Mt. Olive Cemetery on Feb. 7

The Madison County Racial Justice Coalition will host its second Black History Month Fundraiser to support the maintenance and beautification the the Long Ridge Community’s Historic Mount Olive Cemetery on February 7.

We look forward to sharing additional details after our December meeting.

We’re grateful to our community and local businesses who generously supported the 2022 event that raised $3,290 for the project.

About Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mars Hill

Founded in 1936, the Mount Olive Cemetery was purchased from the County School Board and is adjacent to the Historic Anderson-Rosenwald School. Among those buried there are the decedents of Mr. Joseph Anderson, who was one of the founders of Mars Hill University and Ms. Viola King Barnette, whose letter to the State School Board Superintendent was responsible for ensuring that all children across North Carolina could receive a public secondary education.
