April 12 Implicit Bias Training: Be a Better White Ally

The Racial Justice Coalition of Madison County is sponsoring a FREE Implicit Bias training on April 12 at 3 pm at Mars Hill United Methodist Church on South Main Street. Registration is complimentary; however, registration is limited to 30 individuals.

This training will allow attendees to:

  • Explore and recognize root causes of bias 

  • Discover strategies to support communities of color

About the Facilitator

Deb Myers, Director of the Center for Community Engagement at Mars Hill University

Deb has served as the Director of the Center for Community Engagement and Bonner Scholar Program since 2012.  She has worked in higher education for 30 years in curricular and co-curricular programs. Deb’s Master’s and Doctorate work focused on social justice and equity in higher education. In her current role, she teaches first-year Bonner scholars in their First Year Seminar classes, in the Community & Nonprofit Leadership program and in the Women’s & Gender Studies programs. She also serves as an academic advisor, works with faculty to promote academic community engagement across the disciplines, and supports students as they seek academic success. Deb’s academic interest is social justice education and DEI initiatives. She frequently teaches students and leads adult groups in exploring root causes of social inequity and understanding their own background as it relates to privilege and oppression. In her personal life, Deb is the proud mom to two busy teenage boys and spends much of her time engaging with their activities. She loves to travel, finds peace in the outdoors and enjoys relaxing with her fur-babies.
